Limestone relief of courtier Ay
Ay was pharaoh after the death of pharaoh Tutankhamun, who died prematurely. Ay was only pharaoh for a brief period of 4 or 5 years while he was married to Tutankhamun’s widow Ankhsenamun. The style of this relief is typical of the Amarna period in which the eyes and prolonged skull was important.
Egyptian, New Kingdom, 18th dynasty, about 1360 BC.
Found in his tomb near Amarna, capital of Egypt during the reign of Akhenaten.
